Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture - NYPL
Emmett Till Project
The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture - NYPL sought a digital platform to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Emmett Till’s murder. The platform needed to honor his legacy, provide a robust educational resource for researchers, and create a space for the public to engage in meaningful reflection. The challenge was to design a website that balanced remembrance, education, and activism in a visually impactful and user-friendly way.
Our work on EmmettTillProject.com started with a thoughtful approach to branding and design. We created a logo inspired by the “Say Their Name” campaign of the Black Lives Matter movement, using bold typography and symbolic imagery to convey remembrance and a call for justice.
The website design featured an interactive timeline that guided visitors through key historical moments, enriched by multimedia archives, including photos, videos, and documents. These elements offered an immersive and informative experience for researchers and the general public. To support educational engagement, we incorporated comprehensive resources for scholars, educators, and students.
Additionally, a commemorative section was created to invite visitors to share personal reflections, fostering an emotional and participatory connection with Emmett Till’s story. Consistent, impactful visuals and intuitive navigation ensured that the site was accessible and engaging for all users.
