DC Public Schools
DC Public Schools (DCPS) requested a public art installation to celebrate the diversity and global nature of a school with an international student body. The goal was to design a piece that would foster a sense of belonging and connection for students from various cultural backgrounds, visible from both inside and outside the school.
John Eaton Elementary
The project began by exploring the school’s commitment to inclusivity and global citizenship. Drawing from these values, we developed a quilt-inspired motif to symbolize unity and connection. The design integrates colors from international flags alongside the primary and secondary colors typical in elementary schools, with bold shapes adding a vibrant yet cohesive look.
Positioned on the stairwell’s glass facade, the artwork remains visible both day and night, enhancing the school environment and serving as a visual reminder of unity and belonging. The installation celebrates the school’s diverse community, creating a welcoming space that resonates with students and the neighborhood alike.
Our Process & Production
The installation fostered pride and unity, resonating deeply with students and staff. Visible day and night, it symbolized global connection, with feedback highlighting its impact in creating a sense of belonging and inclusivity across the school community.
